Commentary on “You Are Here”: The Intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Poetic Expression

Abstract

The poem “You Are Here” is generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) shares compositional features and poetic style with the works of Charles Bernstein’s. AI poetry has sparkled debates concerning the role of the poet and the nature of linguistic meaning, while Bernstein’s experimental works provide a paradigm for this AI-generated verses. The structure of fragmentation, repetitive devices and emotional complexity are discussed in this article. The poem adopts fragmented language and recurrence of the letter “a” to evoke the monotony of modern existence, challenging the language’s function of conveying meaning—an approach that mirrors Bernstein’s preoccupation with the materiality of language.
